Digital Day

On Wednesday 13th , 14 media students took part in The British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) Digital Day A team of digital media professionals from Zone Digital came in to guide, mentor and lead the projects.

Students were asked to create a digital product from a brief created by Microsoft, Burberry and the RSPCA. Their brains humming with ideas and buzzing with design and content they set about making the basic idea a reality.

“It was an interesting day, great, smooth sailing”

They sketched out the user journey, the user experience, and how the product meets the user's needs and most importantly how it will look on the screen.

Then they had to do the thing which no one enjoys – the presentation to their peers. It was a joy to see them flourish throughout the day and rise to the challenge. They stood and delivered with a certain style their digital visions for: an animal welfare app, a dyslexia learning game, a sustainable Burberry coat and a personalised AI learning bot.

“It was fascinating to see the way the media works and the variety of people and roles there are”

It was a pleasure to see them grow and start to work with discipline and confidence with the seasoned industry professionals. So huge respect to the Y12 media team: Loic, Yacine, Tivon; Nana, Martina, Sofia; Raheema, Sarah, Rania; Ahman, Maniya, Jaida, Tanisha for all they achieved and here’s hoping that one of the teams will go forward to the grand final. Good luck guys!

Digital day came about because the digital sector has been growing at twice the rate of the broader economy; but unless we fix the skills shortage, that growth will not be able to continue. Digital Day works to encourage more young people to discover the potential of a digital career.
