One Day Jamaica Relief Drive
On Friday 21st November, Harris Clapham Sixth Form came together for a one day Jamaica Relief Drive to support families affected by Hurricane Melissa. Even though the collection ran for only one day, the response from students, families and staff was truly moving.
From the start of the morning, students arrived carrying the item they had chosen to donate. It was clear that many of them had put real thought into what they brought. The idea of bringing one item made the drive easy for everyone to join in, and it helped students understand that when a whole community takes part, small actions quickly grow into something powerful. Each student and every member of staff was invited to bring one useful contribution such as a hygiene product, a school supply, a food item that would store well or a household essential. This kept the focus simple and fair, and it meant that every young person could be involved and feel that they had made a difference.
Our staff supported the day with great generosity. Many added extra items quietly and encouraged students to think about those who were affected by the storm. By the end of the day, our collection area was full of supplies of every kind. For a drive that lasted just one day, the amount gathered was remarkable and showed a strong sense of care from our whole community.
A special thank you must go to the students who stayed behind at the end of the day to help with the packing. They sorted and organised the donations with real care and maturity. Their teamwork made sure that everything was ready to be delivered quickly, and they represented Harris Clapham Sixth Form with pride.
The school looked bright and cheerful, with students and staff wearing yellow and green to show support for Jamaica. It created a warm atmosphere and reminded us that simple gestures can strengthen our sense of togetherness.
What made the day stand out was the feeling across the building. There was a calm and thoughtful sense of purpose as everyone played a part in helping others. This experience gave our students an important lesson about kindness. It showed them that acts of generosity do not need to be complicated. One small contribution, when shared by many, can make a genuine difference.
Thank you to every student, every member of staff and every family who supported the drive. Your generosity has had a real impact and has shown our young people what it means to stand together with empathy and care.
