The Library

Hclsf 2024 019ds web

Like writer Caitlin Moran, we believe that libraries are "cathedrals of the mind; hospitals of the soul; theme parks of the imagination".

When you study with us, our library will become your warm, welcoming and inspiring library too  –  the beating heart of our academy.

We will encourage you to come here to read and study throughout the day, as well as before and after school, because we emphatically believe that reading (whether for study or for pleasure) is at the heart of learning and thinking well.

Opening times

Our opening times are:

  • Monday to Thursday: 8am-5pm
  • Friday: 8am-4pm

Visit our news and highlights page for all the latest library news.

Our library houses an exciting and growing collection of extraordinary books – encapsulating the best which has been thought and said (to paraphrase poet Matthew Arnold). Resources include:

  • A carefully curated non-fiction print selection, designed to support academic study and encourage wider reading

  • A vibrant, diverse and inclusive print selection of fiction, covering many genres

  • A range of electronic resources to support students' learning, such as New Scientist and Massolit. Students can access these via the Harris 365 network.

  • A library catalogue where the full holdings of the library can be searched

  • Laptops for students to use within the library as well as the school computers.

  • A dedicated silent study space providing an academic, focused environment.

"The library is open after school until 5pm. This helps me get ahead of work but also to build nice relations with others who're studious around me." Shalom

Genre/theme of the month

Each month we promote a different theme or genre in our library, which links to our list of books in our library catalogue. These include:
