Student Wellbeing

Sixth form can be exciting, but it can also feel intense at times. Balancing study, social life, work, and future plans isn’t always easy, and that’s okay.
Wellbeing is about how you feel, how you cope, and how you look after yourself – both physically and mentally. Good wellbeing doesn’t mean feeling happy all the time. It means having the tools, support, and habits that help you manage challenges, stay healthy, and bounce back when things feel tough.
How we can help...
Looking after yourself helps you learn better, feel stronger, and enjoy your sixth form experience. If you’re struggling, there is always someone to speak to at Harris Clapham Sixth Form. This might be:
- your Head of House
- your tutor
- a member of the safeguarding team
- a member of staff you trust
- the School counsellor
And you can also get study support from our academic mentor. Your wellbeing matters greatly to us.
“I value the academic support and encouragement from my teachers.”
Yahya
“The counsellor is always available to help and talk to about anything. You can just drop in. HACL6 has supported me a lot through the UCAS process."
Zamzam
“I value the emotional support the school gives. There is so much diversity here and so many different people I can talk to, it's very fun."
Demi
“Having one-to-ones with my tutor allows me to open up about my academic and personal challenges and get the support I need.”
Lovelace
“Teachers notice when your attendance slips and so check in on you to see if you need any support.”
Remas
"I value the interventions offered as they support my learning and exam preparation.”
Suri
"Our teachers are very approachable, fun and aren't afraid to crack a cringe joke occasionally which keeps lessons entertaining and lifts our spirits!"
Shalom

What supports good wellbeing?
Healthy routines. Having a basic routine can help reduce stress and improve focus.
- Try to wake up and go to bed at similar times
- Plan study time and breaks
- Keep some time each week for things you enjoy
- Have regular breaks from your phone
Small, consistent habits are more powerful than big changes all at once
Sleep. Sleep is essential for memory, concentration, mood, and mental health.
- Aim for 7–9 hours of sleep per night
- Avoid screens right before bed if you can
- Create a calm bedtime routine (music, reading, stretching)
Lack of sleep can increase anxiety and make everyday challenges feel harder..
Nutrition. Food fuels your brain as well as your body.
- Eat regular meals to maintain energy levels
- Include a mix of carbohydrates, protein, fruit, and vegetables
- Stay hydrated throughout the day
Physical activity. Exercise can improve mood, reduce stress, and boost confidence.
- Walking, sports, gym, dancing, or yoga all count
- Aim for some movement most days
- Choose activities you actually enjoy
Even short bursts of movement can make a difference.
Balance. Wellbeing is about balance, not doing everything perfectly.
- Work hard, but rest as well
- Stay connected with friends and family
- Ask for help when you need it
Taking care of yourself is not a weakness, it’s a strength.
Looking after your mental wellbeing
Ways to support your mental health:
- Talk to someone you trust
- Write things down to clear your head
- Practice mindfulness or breathing exercises
- Take breaks from social media when it feels overwhelming
- Be kind to yourself, no one has it all figured out
If things feel heavy for a long time, you don’t have to deal with it alone and there is always someone to talk to at Harris Clapham Sixth Form.
