Bursaries & Free School Meals

The 16-19 school bursary schemes were introduced to provide financial help to young people aged 16 to 19 who face financial barriers to participating in education or training, provided they meet agreed standards of attendance and behaviour.

The academy offers two types of bursary.  You can only apply for one type, depending on your personal circumstances.


The vulnerable bursary

To be eligible for the vulnerable bursary you must meet all four of the following conditions:

  1. Attend Harris Clapham Sixth Form
  2. Be starting Year 12 or 13 in September 2025
  3. Be aged between 16 and 18 on 31 August 2025
  4. Belong to one of the following groups: 
  • young person in care, including unaccompanied asylum- seeking child
  • young care leaver; or 
  • be receiving income support or universal credit in own right
  • be receiving Employment Support Allowance and are also in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments.

The discretionary bursary

To be eligible for the discretionary bursary you must meet four of the following conditions:

  1. Attend Harris Clapham Sixth Form   
  2. Be starting Year 12 or 13 in September 2025
  3. Be aged between 16 and 18 on 31 August 2025
  4. Living in a household with an annual income below £40,000 before tax and national insurance.
  5. An accompanied asylum seeker.

Free School Meals

Many students are entitled to Free School Meals which are provided by our canteen. Even if students have been in receipt of free school meals in the past, they must reapply by speaking to the Finance Officer at Harris Clapham Sixth Form.
