The Great Gatsby on the West End
A Spectacular Start to the Term!
Last Thursday afternoon, 15 of our Year 13 English and Drama students had the chance to experience something really special: a matinee performance of The Great Gatsby at the London Coliseum.
From the moment the curtain went up, the production was sensational. The set design was amazing—transforming the stage into glittering parties and realistic mansions. The costumes were breathtaking too, with sparkles, feathers and sharp suits that captured all the glamour and extravagance of the 1920s.
The performances themselves were just as impressive. Every single vocal performance was flawless, filling the theatre with energy and emotion. The choreography added to the excitement, with slick, stylish routines that made Gatsby’s famous parties feel larger than life.
To the students’ delight, the cast also featured a few famous faces—among them, stars of High School Musical and even Love Island. This extra touch of celebrity sparkle only added to the excitement of the afternoon.
Our students were completely absorbed throughout, and it was brilliant to see them so engaged with a story they’ve studied in class.
By the final curtain, they were on their feet giving standing ovation—it’s safe to say they loved every minute. One student summed it up perfectly afterwards, saying: “It was the best musical I have ever seen.”
What a way to kick off the term! Both staff and students left the theatre buzzing with excitement and inspiration
