A-Level Politics Students Shine at Bell’s Summer Activism Academy
Some of our talented A-Level Politics students – Reanna, Kehara, Salma, Miriam, Esther, Maame, Hafsa, Hafso and Assia – were selected to attend Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP’s Summer Activism Academy this August. Over three days, they explored how politics works both locally and nationally, visiting Parliament, Lambeth Town Hall, and community spaces in Clapham & Brixton Hill. The programme included sessions on campaigning, organising, and local government.
The final day saw students design and present their own campaign blueprints, covering issues such as raising the minimum wage, ending fossil fuel use, boosting pay for key workers, implementing a wealth tax, and tackling inequality in education. They impressed everyone with their creativity, attention to detail, and strategic thinking. Throughout the programme, they also met several inspiring political figures – including Diane Abbott MP and local councillors – and worked alongside organisers, researchers, and activists from Unite the Union, the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), and Green New Deal Rising. These guests shared their experiences of political activism and helped students think step-by-step about who to reach, potential tactics, and communication strategies.
We’re proud of the way our students represented the school – showing confidence, thoughtful questioning, and excellent debating skills – and we look forward to seeing the positive impact they’ll make in the future!
